The engagement
The client builds and remodels luxury homes in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The office ran on a subscription platform it used a fraction of, an aging website, and a lot of paper. I spent two weeks there before writing anything: in the office, out on the job sites, in the truck in between, learning which paper actually mattered.
What’s being built
MountainBuilder is a selections and job-paperwork app, shaped around how the office already works. Selection boards with approve and decline, a clipper that turns a product page into a board item in one click, daily logs and the work-to-complete list from a site walk, and the money paperwork with the office’s own rules built in: an invoice can’t outrun its bid, and a check can’t be cut before the draw is funded. Every change is logged with who and when, and nothing can be deleted.
The website comes after the back office, once the operation behind it is calm.
Where it stands
MountainBuilder is going into the office’s hands now. The old subscription keeps running alongside it until every check is green, and only then does it go. There’s no result on this page yet, because there isn’t one yet. This is what’s being built, and why.
